my daily commute to and from work consists of several legs. (i personally only have two. what about you, my dear martian?)
while the long travel time consistently tops my work-related gripes, i have already learned too much and witnessed (and been part of) too many anecdotes to spice up any conversation, for me to discount it as a purely negative evil i could have lived happily without. (i could have, but then my posts would have been peppered more with exciting things like the weather and what i do at home when bored, both of which would just barely make your top 1,000,000 stimulating reads. not that what i have here is any better though, but still.: ) )
so one of my favorite parts is the walk from the edsa-taft mrt entrance (coming from congested taft) down to where i wait for the train to come whooshing in. it's not a long walk, but i wish it were longer. in all of three minutes, i brush past people, avoid them while maintaining an energetic speed, i overtake them when it suits me. it gives me a chance to walk along a smooth floor, with a bigger personal space for myself after the craziness of the crowded turnstiles, the lights of makati twinkling in the distance, meeting the early evening breeze face-on, in sweet anticipation of home.
it's freedom, an expression. bustling energy and purpose. laughter and recklessness. it makes me think of the crowded pedestrians of new york and tokyo and all the other places that never sleep, that make me want to stay up with them and their blinding lights until i can.
i say walk, but really i glide. with earphones on playing muse, or counting crows, taylor swift, or jang geun suk, i somehow fulfill fantasies of modeling and walking down the runway.
it's the best feeling in the world. : )
